Transformed estate planning with a secure digital platform serving B2B customers

When Alan set out to build My Executor Box, he was tackling a problem that affects almost every family at some stage: the stress and confusion that follows when someone dies and their estate needs to be settled.

Traditionally, executors and solicitors must piece together assets, liabilities, and documents from disparate sources, a process that can be slow, emotionally draining, and prone to information being overlooked or lost. My Executor Box aimed to change that by offering a secure, centralised digital platform where individuals can record their financial information, important documents, and other essential details in one place, then grant access to their chosen executors. The goal was not simply technical innovation but making a practical difference at a moment when clarity and control matter most.

The Challenge

At the heart of this project was the need to balance accessibility with security. Users had to be confident that deeply personal financial information and documents would be protected, while also being easy to share with the right people at the right time. The core challenge was building a platform that felt straightforward to use for a broad range of individuals, yet robust from a technical and operational perspective. My Executor Box also needed to support nuanced behaviours, for example, giving users the option to allow executors to view assets immediately or only after death without compromising usability or data safety. These requirements, combined with the emotional weight of the problem being solved and the need for a reliable platform that could attract paying business customers, made design and development particularly demanding.

What We Did

We worked with Alan as a collaborative partner from prototype through to a market-ready platform. The engagement began with iterative design work to crystallise functional requirements, ensure clarity around user journeys, and establish the data security model. Over six agile development sprints, we built a bespoke web application tailored to My Executor Box’s needs, incorporating two-factor authentication at sign up and thoughtful user choices around executor access control.

This iterative process allowed us to validate assumptions early, respond to evolving needs, and refine user interfaces so that complex decisions felt intuitive. We also focused on creating a secure backend that could handle sensitive information with care and integrity, laying a solid foundation for future growth.

Transforming the Experience

Once live, My Executor Box transformed what had previously been an analogue, fragmented process into a coherent digital experience. Individuals can now log into a secure platform, populate it with details of assets, liabilities, wills, powers of attorney, and other documentation, and decide precisely who can see this information and when.

From the perspective of executors and solicitors, the platform removes much of the guesswork and friction inherent in estate administration, cutting down on time spent tracking down records and reducing the emotional toll on bereaved families. What was once a frustrating, manual process is now supported by a structured, secure system that gives both users and professionals greater confidence.

Results

From prototype to live product:

The concept was developed into a working web platform now in soft launch with paying customers.

Secure, user-centric solution:

Two-factor authentication and access control options enhance trust in the platform.

Iterative delivery reduced risk:

Agile sprints and close collaboration ensured what was built met real user needs without over-engineering.

Positive early traction:

Feedback is being collected from multiple solicitors and clients during soft launch to inform continuous improvement.

Next Steps

Looking ahead, the focus for My Executor Box is on scaling, refining, and responding to early user and partner feedback. This will include enhancing the platform’s features based on real-world usage patterns, expanding integrations that make estate planning even smoother, and broadening reach within professional networks like legal firms and financial advisors. The ongoing collaboration will ensure the platform remains grounded in practical value while evolving into a trusted tool for estate planning in an increasingly digital world.
