Axway TitaniumMobile

    Titanium is an open-source framework that allows the creation of native mobile apps on platforms including iOS, Android and Windows UWP from a single JavaScript codebase. It was developed by Appcelerator. In January 2016, the company was acquired by Axway, a global software company with more than 11,000 public- and private-sector customers in 100 countries.

    Benefits of this technology

    Apps can be written using a fairly complete JavaScript API. Unlike a traditional native app, you do not require developers who know Objective-C (or Swift) for iOS and Java (or Kotlin) for Android applications.

    • 60-90% code reuse across device platforms;
    • Direct access to native APIs using Hyperloop;
    • Delivers fully native apps for rich user experience;
    • Immediate support for each new OS release;
    • Seamless integration to existing continuous delivery systems.

    Use Cases

    Appcelerator proved to be great in accelerating time to market for new apps. In many cases, we can achieve a very high code reuse ratio and reduce not only the initial cost, but also ongoing maintenance. We have also successfully used it for prototyping where it helped us to smoothly move from a functional prototype to releasing a MVP, and beyond to scalable platforms.

    Where we would not use it

    However performant, we would not recommend it for game development. In some cases, the lack of modules can swerve us into native route (this however has been greatly reduced by introduction of Hyperloop).
